Volume Leveling

Volume Leveling allows Tracks to be played back in MediaMonkey at a consistent volume level, so that you don't have to manually adjust the volume to compensate for some Tracks being recorded at higher/lower volumes than others. Leveling playback volume is generally accomplished by either:

  1. Leveling the playback volume of a file as it plays in MediaMonkey based on a (Replay Gain) volume leveling coefficient that has been previously calculated.
  2. Leveling the track volume of the source file so that it plays back at level volume on any player, but only with MP3 files.

For more information on these approaches, see: Basic Concepts: Volume Leveling

Leveling Playback Volume

  1. Select all of your Tracks and click Tools > Analyze Volume. This will take some time as each Track will be individually analyzed, and (per Track and per Album) volume adjustment coefficients will be calculated for each Track (note: you can change the default settings via Tools > Options > Player > Volume Leveling).
  2. From the Play menu, click Level Volume . This will ensure that the Player will adjust the volume level using the calculated coefficient. Note that Volume leveling is only supported for the MediaMonkey player--it is not supported in Winamp.

Leveling Track Volume

To level the volume of Tracks already in the library:

  1. Configure the Baseline Volume Level to the desired volume via Tools > Options > Player > Volume Leveling.
  2. Select all of the Tracks you wish to level and click Tools > Level Track Volume. This will take some time as each Track will be individually analyzed, and the volume will then be adjusted so that the Track(s) can play back levelled on any player.

To level the volume of Tracks when Burning a CD, Ripping a CD, or converting between audio formats, simply enable the checkbox on the respective dialogs.
